France and Terroir: Next Level Wine Course

Take your wine expertise to the next level and explore French winegrowing culture, still the basis of fine winegrowing around the world. France may or may not be the world’s greatest wine producer, but she defined, defended and codified the Old World’s philosophy of winegrowing, a concept called terroir. Today, the wines, wine law and winegrowing philosophy of France remain standards to which all other countries compare. We’ll discuss France’s rise to wine world dominion and her fall, learn her wine law and taste and discuss primary regions.  Join Advanced Sommelier Mary Ross as we taste 6 exemplary French wines – including a 100% Grand Cru Champagne, a 
Cote d’Or Blanc and a 2020 red Margaux, receiving ratings from international critics of 90+ - complemented by traditional wine noshes, along with chicken liver mousse on a toasted baguette to test the “rules” of wine and food.  An understanding of wine basics (such as the concept of ‘terroir’) is recommended.
