Hands-On Culinary Adventure: Trip to Puerto Rico

Take a culinary trip to Puerto Rico and discover the savory and sweet side of La Isla de Encanto- The Island of Enchantment- in this hands-on class. You’ll learn how to prepare classic dishes that highlight the islands diversity and culinary heritage.
 
Menu:

• Arroz con Pollo (Chicken and Rice with Onions, Peppers and Olives) 
• Rellenos de Papa (Beef Picadillo and Potato Croquettes)
• Ensalada Verde (Arugula, Avocado, Tomato and Cucumber) with Achiote Vinaigrette 
• Tembleque (Puerto Rican Coconut Pudding)

Skills covered in class:

• Getting familiar with Puerto Rican cuisine and ingredients 
• Selecting and braising chicken 
• Balancing flavors
• Working with fresh herbs and spices
• Selecting and mashing potatoes
• Selecting ground beef
• Working with avocados 
• Preparing vinaigrette
• Deep frying

In this hands-on class, students will be paired in groups of three to five and work together as a team to prepare the recipes.
